EDUCATION PROGRAM:
This program promotes an alternative vision of education among the population, valuing traditional learning rooted in Mayan identity, culture and cosmovision. It enables the students to continue on to higher levels of academic study, which will ultimately serve as a means for improving the economic conditions of the Mayan people, and as members of the majority population, raise awareness of human rights.

SUPPORT WE OFFER:

  • Loans for studies at the ´diversificado´ or community college level for students with limited economic resources.
  • Scholarships for studies at the ´basico´ or junior high and high school level for students with limited economic resources.
  • Resources and courses to promote reading and writing of K´iche in communities of the linguistic region.

PRODUCTION PROGRAM:
This program is fundamental for strengthening family and community economies. Its mission is to diversify and increase the production of crafts, generating employment and enhancing the ability of Mayan populations to meet their basic needs. It also aims to market traditional weaving products on the national and international market with the goal of increasing sales in order to create a source of income for the families of the Mayan producers. Salaries are fair and creativity is encouraged and rewarded.

WOMEN´S PROGRAM:
The aim of the women’s program is to promote the organization, participation and leadership of women in the communities where they live, and on the national scale. This involves capacity building workshops to increase their roles as decision makers and productive workers, and generally support them in the struggle against inequality. The micro credit project provides women with small scale loans to start or expand small businesses. Workshop themes regularly include gender, self-esteem, health, working with credit, social and political consciousness, and Mayan culture (generally Mayan ceremonies and information sharing), as well as other themes of particular interest to the women.

REFORESTATION PROGRAM:
The aim of the reforestation program is to contribute to the protection of the environment, recognizing its importance as the source of life for all living beings. Trees are grown and provided to communities for the reforestation of both individual and collectively held lands which have been clear cut. The program will also work to establish an organic garden that demonstrates effective agro-forestry.
